The Haynesville oil industry provided jobs for many people during the depression. Most of Ora's boys worked for the Ohio Oil Company as they entered adulthood. This was considered an essential industry during WW II and they were exempt from the WW II draft.

Ora Fess, born January 27, 1885 in Ohio City, Ohio, moved to Haynesville, Louisiana in early 1920's where he raised his family died April 13, 1974, buried Haynesville Father was William Mother was Rebecca Ora had two brothers, Harry and Burr one sister, Alice his father lived with Ora during his last years he is also buried in Haynesville Ora married on December 27, 1907 Eunice Lina Hutson, born Oct. 24, 1884 born Eunice Everly in Brown County, Ind. died July 7, 1966, buried in Haynesville her father was Benjamin Everly her mother was Elizabeth Phoebe Hutson

After moving from Allendale, Illinois in the early 1920's to Haynesville, Louisiana, ORA and Eunice Fess raised seven children while ORA worked as an engineer for the Ohio Oil Company.
All of their children graduated from Haynesville High School, Louisiana. The schools only had eleven grades then.

Paul had a daughter, Helen Ruth, and a son, Paul Ray, they lived in East Texas near Henderson Vaughn had one daughter, Barbara Ann, lived his life in Haynesville Max had two daughters, Mary Frances and Margaret Ellen, lived their later life in San Antonio, TX after spending several years in Libya with oil companies. Don had six children, three boys and three girls, lived his adult life in Magnolia, Arkansas June had two daughters and two sons, lived her married life in Shreveport, Louisiana Evelyn had two daughters and two sons, lived her married life in Magnolia, Arkansas
